As I recall on this day the boys were running around the front yard in hyper-speed. I asked them to pose for a picture, they paused on the front steps for roughly a second and I snapped this and they were off again.

When I was a kid I was fascinated by jukeboxes (for you youngsters it's an early form of the iPod). This was taken at Cedar Point, an amusement park in Ohio. I'm pretty sure my parents had to drag me away screaming.

Hobson's Boots.

My son Hobson joined the Marines, to the dismay of his parents, right out of high school. He trained at Pendleton, near San Diego, then Virginia and then was stationed in Twenty-nine Palms. He did one seven month tour in Iraq which was one of the most grueling times of our lives. He's out now, married and lives close by. In fact he and I make beer together. Some of it has even been delicious.

I've been scoring a lot of vinyl lately at estate & yard sales. Lots of fun stuff but not much jazz or rock and roll. I now have a collection of Henry Mancini soundtracks, Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, and musicals not to mention some nice Sinatra and Nat King Cole. All of it in very good shape. My mom liked a piano player by the name of Frankie Carle and I now have a collection of his also. I think I'll post some of the cover art also as it's very groovy.

This is Maebe. She's a pit bull that moved in with us along with our son, Graham. Up until having Maebe in the house I would have believed that pit bulls are mean viscous dogs but Maebe is the complete opposite in fact the only way I can possibly picture her harming anyone is by over loving them. She even spent one sunny Sunday afternoon in our yard playing with a kitten. The kitten showed absolutely no fear of Maebe. She loves ice cubes and every evening at cocktail hour when I get ice from the fridge she's right there to get a cube for herself.

Mimi's Spoon Collection

My grandmother, who I called Mimi when I was a child, had a collection of spoons. Here are a few of them in a glass that contained Electrovita, a mineral water that my grandfather drank while in the hospital. He died there, when my mother was seven, of what they now think was cancer.

Find some fragrant lemons. Juice a half & add to a mixing glass partially filled with ice. Then add an ounce of simple syrup & two and a half ounces of rye or bourbon. Shake, shake, shake... and strain into a cocktail glass. Add a twist of orange peel & enjoy your Whiskey Sour.

It's Monday and that means "Show & Tell". Today it's my shoes. Since I shoot shoes, a lot, I thought I'd shoot a pair of my own. I wear these but I not real often. I've been experimenting with some effects too today so I added a little touch to my Plaid New Balance shoes. Maybe I'll wear them in a marathon some day. By the way it's sunny here in Seattle today.

In the studio one morning I spied my old "Brown Betty" (a very popular English tea pot) that I must have brought in quite some time ago maybe to use in a photo. I thought what a nice simple shape and finish so I took it over to the window and began working on a photograph. Soon I had one and thought it might look nice in a grouping. Finished with that I made a cup of tea and felt it tasted better than my tea usually did. I took it home and now use it daily. I've always preferred tea to coffee, especially in the morning, and I like the Yunnan region tea best. The one I get at my tea shop, The Perennial Tea Room in Post Alley near the Pike Place Market in Seattle, is called Tippy Yunnan because of the golden tips of some of the tea leaves. I've gone on long enough, have a cup of tea.

Starting out with my first blog posting here and of course it involves mixed drinks. My wife Nancy and I love bourbon. We love Old Fashions and we love Perfect Manhattans. Here's how to make two. Put on some nice music then place two cocktail glasses in the freezer to chill. Fill a mixing glass or shaker half full of ice then add 5 oz of either bourbon (suggestion: Jim Beam Black) or rye (suggestion: Pikesville Rye Whiskey). 1/2 oz Italian (sweet) and 1/2 oz French (dry) vermouth. 4 to 6 dashes of Angostura bitters and stir heartily. Until the sides of the vessel ice up. Retrieve glasses from freezer and strain the golden beverage of delight into each. Add a twist of orange peel and enjoy! Cheers!
